Salvador “Tony” Bruno

Salvador “Tony” Bruno is a maritime industry leader with unparalleled experience heading the operational, commercial and financial strategies for U.S. Flag and non-U.S. Flag carriers. His expertise is global, having headed shipping operations in countries across North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. His track record includes managing P&Ls of up to $400M, exceeding sales and profitability targets and generating above-market business growth year-over-year, and having cultivated personal relationships with customers worldwide over his decades-long career.
Tony served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Hapag-Lloyd USA LLC, one of the world’s leading liner shipping companies, from 2015 through 2019. In this role, Tony led all operational, commercial and financial initiatives for the U.S. Flag fleet that serves the U.S. military, government and commercial shippers. Tony also served in multiple general management roles within Hapag-Lloyd USA LLC’s parent company, Hapag-Lloyd AG. From 2012-2015 he was Senior Vice President, East Coast South America, where he led Hapag-Lloyd’s $400M operations in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. There, he advanced Hapag-Lloyd to the number-two position in the marketplace and introduced new Asian, European and Intracoastal services.
After advancing through management positions of increasing responsibility at Lykes Brothers Steamship Co, Inc. Tony became Senior Vice President, Transatlantic Trade Management at CP Ships. His career began with Waterman Steamship Corporation/Delta Steamship Lines.
In 2018, Tony was a recipient of the Admiral of the Ocean’s Seas (AOTOS) Award, the American maritime industry’s most prestigious honor. He is a graduate of the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL and the Advance Traffic School (Maritime Industry Trade School) in Chicago, IL.
